Custom Coastal’s Mission: Empowering Gulf Coast Communities Through Educational Excursions and Outreach.

At Custom Coastal, we are committed to enhancing the livelihoods of Gulf Coast residents by increasing awareness of our rich coastal resources and opening doors for youth to explore meaningful career paths in maritime industries and marine sciences.

Through strong partnerships with local stakeholders—including residents, governmental agencies, schools, universities, foundations, and community organizations—we are charting a course toward a future where Gulf Coast communities are informed, inspired, and equipped to tackle the unique challenges facing our region.

Together, we’re developing customized excursions across boats, bays, and beaches that offer students unforgettable field experiences. These journeys are designed to spark lasting interest in marine science, maritime careers, environmental policy, economics, and coastal law. The next best thing to being out on the water is experiencing the marine environment through our videos and digital content, made aboard our 20′ Boston Whaler, piloted by Captain Emily and her deckhand Niki.

These efforts will culminate in Gulf Coast Sciences curriculum, to be approved as a TEA Local Innovative course. We are now working with some state and federal partners to make it a reality. To further that goal, we started Gulf Coast Kids, a tailored educational resource and social platform to deepen students’ understanding of their role in managing and protecting our coastal environment, and enhance what they learn in the classroom. These programs are supplemental to existing Aquatic and Environmental Sciences curricula and can be applied across the five Gulf States. Establishing a clear pathway to maritime career opportunities is a collective effort and we need your help.

Gulf Coast Realities

  • The resources that are the identity of our communities are under increased threat from environmental degradation and destruction.
  • The workforce demands we are currently facing will only become greater.
  • The ties that unite the Gulf Coast run deep: cultural, political, social, economic, demographic and historical. From the shifting tectonic plates that created the Permian and Gulf basins to the individual and collective challenges we will face, we must collaborate to help the next generation of Gulf Coast Kids to not only survive, but thrive on their coast.
  • Reaching the students that have alternative educational pathways.

Introducing Gulf Coast Kids!

Custom Coastal Outreach is proud to launch Gulf Coast Kids—an educational initiative designed to inspire and empower the next generation of coastal leaders. This program connects K–12 students across the Gulf Coast to the waters, industries, and ecosystems that shape their communities. Through hands-on learning, career exploration, and place-based curriculum, Gulf Coast Kids opens doors to meaningful opportunities in marine science, maritime industries, and coastal stewardship. Our curriculum is uniquely crafted to highlight the invaluable—and often overlooked—details of Gulf Coast life, offering students a deep understanding of their environment through local knowledge and stories. Core topics include Coastal Sciences, Fisheries, and Biology, with extended modules in Engineering, Shipping & Transportation, Entrepreneurship, Resiliency, and Public Safety & Emergency Response. Accessible to students of all backgrounds, this program will culminate in the creation of a Gulf Coast Sciences textbook—an essential educational resource rooted in regional relevance. By equipping young people with the knowledge and tools to thrive in coastal careers, Gulf Coast Kids is helping build a stronger, more resilient future for the entire Gulf Coast.
